The Race

McKaig Nature Center will be hosting its first annual 5k trail run on October 1st, 2016.  The race will take off from the festival area at Roberts School and travel through packed dirt, gravel and single track trails that weave in and out of this beautiful 90-acre course.

The ROUTE:

Mile 1: Race begins at the festival area around Old Roberts Schoolhouse.   From there it’s a short run through the field before entering the trails of McKaig.  Run Cadet Trail along McKaig Creek as the single track widens at Peter’s Bridge.  Cross 2 more bridges on the flattest section of the course as you pass Monkey Rock before hitting the first climb up Laurel Trail to the top of French’s Hill.

Mile 2: What goes up must come down.  Enjoy a technical descent down the backside of Laurel to East Laurel Trail, then stride through the meadow before crossing the creek and heading up Old Wood, where you’ll encounter a 200’ ascent leading to a secret trail that’s not yet on the map!  Get ready to navigate some logs before hitting the water station at the end of mile 2.

Mile 3: Traverse back on Old Wood to John Mason Trail and give those legs a break on a nice downhill switchback ending at Nancy Lang Trail, where you’ll weave in and out of the woods along Wayne Woods Creek before crossing the water for the final sprint back down Cadet Trail to the finish
